**Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, January 14, 2025** – The Tiruchi Corporation is planning a comprehensive feasibility study to determine the suitability of developing a reclaimed landfill site in Ariyamangalam. Approximately 40 acres of the 47.7-acre site have been reclaimed through Phases I and II of a biomining project, removing around 11 lakh cubic meters of waste at a cost of ₹74 crore.
The corporation intends to use the reclaimed land for public utility projects, such as community centers, justifying the significant investment in reclamation. A consultant will conduct the feasibility study, assessing the need for land stabilization before construction begins.
A recent study estimates 7.5 lakh tonnes of waste remain, including subsurface and legacy waste, to be removed in Phase III at an estimated cost of ₹44.5 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0. Further development of the site includes plans for a bio-CNG plant, a materials recovery facility, and a construction and demolition waste recycling plant. These projects are expected to commence soon.
