MUMBAI – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the unopposed election of Devajit Saikia as its new secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as treasurer. The appointments, effective immediately, follow the departures of Jay Shah, who became ICC chairman, and Ashish Shelar, who joined the Maharashtra cabinet.

Saikia, formerly the BCCI joint secretary and a former Assam cricketer and advocate general, brings extensive experience in cricket administration, notably his role in developing Assam’s cricket infrastructure. Bhatia, the former president of the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh, also boasts a strong background in BCCI governance.

BCCI president Roger Binny lauded the appointments, highlighting Saikia and Bhatia’s administrative skills and financial acumen. He expressed confidence in their ability to build upon the successes of their predecessors. Vice president Rajeev Shukla echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the unanimous support from state associations and the commitment to continued growth of Indian cricket. The appointments mark a significant shift in the BCCI’s leadership structure, setting the stage for a new era in Indian cricket administration.
