Mon Jan 13 13:37:56 UTC 2025: ## King Charles to Attend Auschwitz Liberation Anniversary

**London, January 13, 2025** – King Charles III will visit Auschwitz-Birkenau for the 80th anniversary of its liberation, Buckingham Palace announced Monday. This will be the King’s first visit to the former Nazi concentration camp and his fifth visit to Poland overall. The visit, scheduled for January 27th, will coincide with a large international commemoration ceremony marking the liberation by the Soviet Red Army.

While undergoing cancer treatment, King Charles will also meet with community leaders in Krakow and hold talks with Polish President Andrzej Duda. The Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, a symbol of the Holocaust, saw the murder of approximately six million European Jews, with one million perishing at the site itself between 1940 and 1945, alongside over 100,000 non-Jews.

The Polish government recently confirmed free access for Israeli officials to the commemoration, despite an outstanding International Criminal Court arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The King’s visit underscores the international significance of remembering the victims of the Holocaust and condemning Nazi atrocities.
