**Kanniyakumari, January 13, 2025** – In response to public complaints, Kanniyakumari Collector R. Alagumeena announced stringent new regulations to curb noise pollution from high-powered speakers and vehicle horns. The regulations, discussed at a meeting on Monday, aim to control excessive noise during festivals, celebrations, and at religious sites.

Collector Alagumeena directed transport officials to crack down on vehicles using air horns and multi-tone horns, instructing them to conduct regular inspections and enforce noise level limits according to ambient air quality standards. Violators face strict penalties. “No-horn” zones will be established with appropriate signage.

Police will be responsible for ensuring only approved speakers are used during events and for monitoring that sound levels do not exceed the ambient noise by more than 10 decibels.
