Mon Jan 13 08:40:26 UTC 2025: ## Blue Origin’s New Glenn Rocket Launch Scrubbed Due to Anomalies

**Cape Canaveral, FL** – Blue Origin’s highly anticipated inaugural launch of its New Glenn rocket has been postponed indefinitely after encountering “anomalies” during the countdown. The launch, originally scheduled for 1:00 am ET Monday, was scrubbed just hours before the launch window closed at 4:00 am.

The 30-story-tall rocket, designed to compete with SpaceX in the burgeoning satellite launch market, was fully fueled and ready for liftoff at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. However, Blue Origin repeatedly delayed the launch, ultimately announcing a stand-down due to a vehicle subsystem issue requiring further troubleshooting.

A company spokesperson stated that the delay is expected to be at least 24 hours, potentially longer. The mission, a culmination of a decade-long, multi-billion dollar development effort, aims to not only reach orbit but also land the first-stage booster on a sea-faring barge in the Atlantic. This ambitious landing maneuver, described by founder Jeff Bezos as the aspect causing the most concern, represents a significant technological hurdle.

Aboard New Glenn is the prototype Blue Ring vehicle, a maneuverable spacecraft intended for national security and commercial satellite servicing missions. Successfully deploying this spacecraft into orbit on the inaugural flight would be a major achievement for Blue Origin.

The delay marks a setback for Blue Origin, which has faced competition from SpaceX’s highly successful Falcon 9 rocket. Under new CEO Dave Limp, the company has accelerated development of New Glenn, a rocket boasting more than twice the power of the Falcon 9 and securing billions of dollars in contracts. The next launch attempt will be announced once the issue is resolved.
