Sun Jan 12 14:54:04 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Waqf Board Asks Commission to Protect Munambam Land Occupants

**KOCHI, January 12, 2025** – The Kerala Waqf Board has appealed to the C.N. Ramachandran Nair Judicial Commission to safeguard the interests of those occupying Waqf property in Munambam, amidst a protracted land dispute. The board insists the land is Waqf property and has urged the commission to survey the area, identifying portions held by third parties and Farook College, some of which has been lost to the sea. Farook College, the property’s manager (Mutawalli), claims the land was a gift, a claim the board argues is beyond the commission’s purview.

The 92-day-long protest by Munambam residents, supported by the Church, continues, demanding the restoration of their revenue rights. The Kerala Waqf Samrakshana Vedi has called for the withdrawal of the commission’s appointment, citing a statement by the commissioner questioning the Waqf status of the land. The board contends that those claiming ownership are not bona fide purchasers, highlighting the construction of hotels, resorts, and homestays on the disputed land. The commission is currently hearing from various stakeholders involved in the dispute.
