Sun Jan 12 12:01:39 UTC 2025: ## Millions Expected at 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj

**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh –** The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, will be held in Prayagraj from January 13th to February 26th, 2025. Millions of Hindu pilgrims are expected to converge on the city to participate in the auspicious festival and take ritual baths at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers.

The festival, held every twelve years, will feature several key bathing dates known as *Shahi Snans*, considered spiritually purifying. These include Paush Purnima (January 13th), Makar Sankranti (January 14th), Mauni Amavasya (January 29th), Basant Panchami (February 3rd), Maghi Purnima (February 12th), and culminating with Mahashivratri (February 26th). Specific timings for the *Shahi Snans* have been allocated among the 13 Akharas (religious orders) to manage the large crowds.

The Maha Kumbh Mela’s origins are rooted in Hindu mythology, tracing back to the legend of the churning of the ocean and the subsequent scattering of Amrit (nectar of immortality). Prayagraj is one of four locations believed to have been touched by this sacred nectar.

The event will include a variety of ceremonies, processions featuring Akharas on elephant back, horses, and chariots, and unique rituals performed by Naga Sadhus, attracting pilgrims from across the globe. Authorities are preparing for the massive influx of devotees, anticipating a significant logistical undertaking to manage the crowds and ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.
