LUCKNOW, INDIA – India Women thrashed Ireland in the second One Day International (ODI) on Sunday, posting a massive 370/5 thanks to stellar batting performances across the order. Jemimah Rodrigues anchored the innings with her maiden ODI century, a 91-ball 102 featuring 12 fours. This milestone came after 41 ODIs and six previous half-centuries. She celebrated her century by miming playing the guitar with her bat.
Rodrigues’s century was complemented by an aggressive 73 off 54 balls from captain Smriti Mandhana and a composed 67 off 60 balls from Pratibha Rawal. The pair put on a 156-run opening stand. Rodrigues and Harleen Deol (89 off 84) then added a further 183 runs for the third wicket, solidifying India’s commanding total. The Indian batters smashed 44 fours and three sixes in their innings, capitalizing on a weak Irish bowling attack.
Speaking after her innings, Rodrigues expressed her delight at finally achieving her century and praised the team’s support. She noted that staying at the crease until the 50th over was crucial to her success. Arlene Kelly and Orla Prendergast took two wickets each for Ireland, with Georgina Dempsey claiming one.
