**Hyderabad, January 11, 2025** – Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed power department officials to investigate the feasibility of installing underground power cables in Greater Hyderabad. The directive, issued during a review of the state’s power sector, calls for a comprehensive study comparing such installations in other countries. The aim is to explore solutions for burying all types of cables, minimizing power loss, theft, and outage risks from natural disasters.

Officials reported that peak power demand in Telangana reached 15,623 megawatts last March and is projected to hit 16,877 megawatts this year. In response, the Chief Minister stressed the need for a robust plan to prevent power cuts during the upcoming summer, emphasizing the readiness of DISCOMs (Distribution Companies) to maintain uninterrupted power supply across the state.

Furthermore, Mr. Reddy instructed officials to formulate a plan for providing free solar power and solar pumpsets to homes in tribal areas. He mandated a joint meeting with the Forest Department, Tribal Welfare Department, and relevant agencies to expedite the development of a comprehensive report on this initiative.
