Fri Jan 10 18:00:33 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Medical Faculty Transfers Spark Outcry

**Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 10, 2025** – The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) has condemned the mass transfer of 71 medical college faculty members as an “unscientific” maneuver to meet National Medical Commission (NMC) norms before an upcoming inspection.

The transfers, ordered Thursday by the Director of Medical Education, saw faculty from four established colleges relocated to the newly-opened Wayanad and Kasaragod medical colleges, with an immediate start date. The KGMCTA argues this is a short-sighted attempt to circumvent the need for creating adequate faculty positions at the new institutions.

The association highlights the existing shortage of faculty across all Kerala medical colleges, impacting both teaching and patient care. They assert that instead of addressing the root problem through the creation of new posts, the government continues to rely on temporary transfers, disrupting both institutional stability and the personal lives of affected faculty. Some transferred faculty have been moved within a year of previous transfers, the KGMCTA points out.

The KGMCTA urges the government to adopt long-term solutions to improve existing medical colleges rather than resorting to these “temporary measures”. They call for the immediate withdrawal of the mass transfer order.
