TIRUPATI, Andhra Pradesh – January 10, 2025 – A highly unusual incident unfolded during a high-level meeting chaired by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday. The Chairman and Executive Officer (EO) of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), B.R. Naidu and Shyamal Rao, respectively, engaged in a heated public argument in the CM’s presence.
The meeting, convened to review the aftermath of a stampede during the Vaikuntha Dwara Darshanam token distribution, took an unexpected turn when the TTD Chairman complained that the EO was not cooperating and ignoring his requests. The EO retorted sharply, denying the accusations and leading to a heated exchange. The argument escalated into a personal confrontation, with both officials using accusatory and disrespectful language towards each other.
Minister Ananagani Satyaprasad attempted to intervene, admonishing the EO for their behavior in front of the Chief Minister. However, the argument continued until Chief Minister Naidu himself intervened, expressing strong disapproval and reprimanding both officials for their unprofessional conduct and lack of coordination. Naidu emphasized the need for cooperation and stressed that such behavior was unacceptable, particularly given the sensitive context of the recent stampede. The CM’s intervention brought a halt to the heated exchange.
The incident highlights a serious lack of coordination within the TTD’s top leadership. While the exact details of their disagreement remain unclear, the public nature of the dispute has raised concerns about the management of the TTD, one of the richest religious institutions in India. Further discussions regarding the incident and additional matters, including the conduct of Additional EO Venkayya Chowdary, are expected to be held at a later date.
