Fri Jan 10 04:38:06 UTC 2025: ## Kerala to Implement Geofencing to Curb Speeding

**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, January 10, 2025** – The Kerala government will soon introduce a geofencing system to monitor vehicle speeds and crack down on reckless driving, Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar announced today. Speaking at the Kerala Legislative International Book Festival, the Minister explained that the system will utilize barcodes on vehicles and speed sensors to track speeds within designated areas. Vehicles exceeding speed limits will be automatically fined.

The government also plans to implement a “black punching” system for driver’s licenses, suspending licenses after a certain number of traffic violations. Reinstating a cancelled license will be a difficult process. Minister Kumar highlighted the challenges of implementing road safety reforms, noting a significant drop in driving test pass rates (to 50%) following stricter testing procedures introduced by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). The KSRTC driving schools have already generated a profit of ₹11 lakh from a revenue of ₹46 lakh.

Further initiatives include a civilian app for reporting driving offenses and a new app for student travel concessions on private buses.
