**Los Angeles, CA** – As unprecedented wildfires tear through Los Angeles County, Google is stepping up to assist affected communities. The devastating blazes, some described as the worst in LA history, have consumed thousands of acres, destroyed hundreds of structures, and forced widespread evacuations, including areas near the iconic Hollywood Sign and in affluent neighborhoods like Malibu.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent an email to employees emphasizing the importance of collective action, announcing a company-wide campaign to support relief efforts. Google.org, the company’s philanthropic arm, is providing funding and matching employee donations.
The tech giant is also leveraging its technology to provide crucial real-time information to residents. Google Search and Maps are offering SOS alerts, public safety announcements, and updated wildfire boundary maps. Road closures are highlighted on Google Maps and Waze, with Waze additionally providing locations of emergency shelters. The company stresses that these resources are constantly updated using information from official sources.
“Our thoughts are with the people and communities affected,” a Google spokesperson stated. “We are actively monitoring the situation and will continue to work with public authorities to share timely information and provide support.”
The scale of the disaster has overwhelmed firefighting crews, with at least six major wildfires burning across the county, three of which are uncontained. A large-scale evacuation order was issued encompassing a significant area of Hollywood. The Palisades fire alone has scorched over 15,000 acres. The fires have impacted both residents and iconic landmarks, highlighting the widespread destruction caused by the ongoing emergency.
