Fri Jan 10 07:20:00 UTC 2025: ## League of Legends Esports Unveils Revolutionary 2025 Season with New Tournament and Format Changes
**Seoul, South Korea** – Riot Games has announced a major overhaul to the League of Legends esports calendar for 2025, introducing a new early-season tournament, innovative draft formats, and updated schedules for MSI and Worlds.
The biggest change is the introduction of the “Fearless Draft” for Split 1 of all regional leagues and the inaugural “First Stand Tournament,” taking place March 10-16 at LoL Park in Seoul. Fearless Draft bans champions used in previous games of a best-of series, forcing teams to utilize their full champion rosters and encouraging strategic adaptability. The First Stand Tournament, featuring the top team from each region’s Split 1, will utilize this format and offer a significant advantage: the winner earns a second bye for their region at MSI 2025, advancing directly to the Bracket Stage. The tournament will feature a round-robin stage followed by a single-elimination bracket.
MSI 2025 will head to Vancouver, Canada, from June 27 to July 12, marking the return of a major LoL Esports event to the country since 2017. The tournament will feature all best-of-five matches and offer an extra Worlds slot for the two best-performing regions.
Worlds 2025 will take place across China, with Play-Ins and the Swiss Stage in Beijing, Quarterfinals and Semifinals in Shanghai, and the Grand Final in Chengdu. A notable change for Worlds is the elimination of the break week between Quarterfinals and Semifinals, ensuring continuous action for fans. A total of 17 teams will compete.
Further innovations include the return of in-match drops for viewers, guaranteeing drops for every pentakill or Baron steal in Tier 1 leagues and tournaments, and the release of the Esports 2025 Capsule with exclusive emotes and icons.
Riot Games also revealed a glimpse into the future, with First Stand 2026 slated for Brazil, MSI 2026 in Korea, and Worlds 2026 in North America. 2027 will see First Stand in Southeast Asia, MSI in Europe, and Worlds back in Korea. With these changes and the innovative Fearless Draft, Riot Games is setting the stage for a dynamic and exciting year of League of Legends esports.
