**Bengaluru, January 9, 2025** – A seemingly simple phone call from a service center in Madanapalli led to the arrest of a 28-year-old serial motorcycle thief in Chintamani, Karnataka. Bangarappa, a daily wage laborer, was apprehended after stealing at least 11 motorcycles worth over ₹6 lakh from across several police station jurisdictions.
The chain of events began with Bangarappa’s theft of a motorcycle from NR Layout in Chintamani on December 18th. He sold the bike in Madanapalli for ₹10,000 without any documentation. The buyer took the motorcycle to a service center for repairs. When the service was complete, the center staff, having misplaced the buyer’s contact information, used the registration number to locate the original owner.
The surprised owner, who had already filed a police report, contacted authorities, leading to a joint operation with the Madanapalli police. The investigation quickly led to the buyer and subsequently to Bangarappa, who confessed to the crime and revealed the locations of 11 stolen motorcycles. Police also stated that Bangarappa had engaged in the theft of brass locks from homes.
Bangarappa is currently in police custody and faces charges related to multiple vehicle thefts. The recovered motorcycles are being returned to their rightful owners.
