**Bengaluru, January 9, 2025** – The Karnataka government announced plans to establish a “Jeans Park” in Ballari, aiming to leverage the current political uncertainty in Bangladesh and boost the region’s already thriving jeans manufacturing industry. The project, first promised by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in October 2022, will be developed by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) on approximately 154 acres of land in Sajanjeerayanakote, near Ballari.
Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil revealed the initiative, stating that the instability in Bangladesh has created an opportunity to attract global investors seeking alternative manufacturing locations. Ballari, already home to over 500 jeans manufacturing units employing tens of thousands, is ideally positioned to benefit. The government aims to transform the area into an organized export hub, with assistance from the Textile Department. Minister Patil added that discussions are planned with the Textile Minister to explore potential incentives for manufacturers.
The project, officially announced in the State budget presented in February 2024 by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is expected to attract globally renowned companies and elevate Ballari’s jeans industry to international standards. Gandhi’s October 2022 commitment was further formalized in an August 1, 2023 letter to the Industries Department. The “Jeans Park” is projected to significantly contribute to Karnataka’s economy and employment opportunities.
