Wed Jan 08 22:54:20 UTC 2025: ## New Zealand Clinches ODI Series Win Over Sri Lanka

**Hamilton, New Zealand (January 8, 2025)** – New Zealand secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in their three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka with a convincing 113-run victory in the second match at Seddon Park. Rain reduced the match to 37 overs per side.

Rachin Ravindra (79 runs off 63 balls) and Mark Chapman (62 runs off 52 balls) spearheaded New Zealand’s innings, their 112-run second-wicket partnership laying the foundation for a challenging 255/9 total. Ravindra’s knock included nine fours and a six, while Chapman hit five fours and two sixes. Both reached their half-centuries with sixes.

Despite Maheesh Theekshana achieving a hat-trick for Sri Lanka – the seventh Sri Lankan to accomplish this feat in ODIs – Sri Lanka struggled against New Zealand’s pace bowling. They were bowled out for 142 in 30.2 overs, with Kamindu Mendis’ career-best 64 offering some resistance. A key 57-run partnership between Mendis and Janith Liyanage, and a 47-run stand with Chamidu Wickramasinghe, proved insufficient to overcome the deficit.

The third and final ODI is scheduled for Saturday in Auckland.
