**GAZA STRIP** – The Israeli military announced Wednesday the discovery of the body of Youssef Ziyadne, a 50-year-old Arab Bedouin man, in an underground tunnel in the Rafah area of the Gaza Strip. Ziyadne, along with three of his adult children, was abducted on October 7th, 2023, during the Hamas attack on Israel. While two of his children were later released in a prisoner exchange, his son Hamza remains missing.
The military’s operation that uncovered Ziyadne’s body also yielded evidence raising “serious concerns” about Hamza’s fate. The discovery comes amid intense pressure from families of hostages and President-elect Trump for a deal securing the release of remaining captives before his inauguration.
Approximately 100 hostages remain in Gaza following the October attack, with a significant portion feared dead. The Israeli military’s announcement adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing hostage crisis and the negotiations for a lasting ceasefire.
