Thu Jan 09 17:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Matsuyama Eyes Second Sony Open Title as PGA Tour Continues Hawaiian Swing
**HONOLULU, HI – January 14, 2025** – The PGA Tour continues its Hawaiian swing this week with the Sony Open in Hawaii at Waialae Country Club on Oahu. Following last week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions, 144 golfers will compete for a $8.7 million purse, with the winner taking home $1.566 million. Unlike last week’s event, this tournament features a 36-hole cut.
Hideki Matsuyama, fresh off a stellar performance at Kapalua, is among the favorites. The Japanese star seeks his second victory at Waialae, having previously triumphed in 2022. This year’s tournament holds added significance, as it marks the anniversary of Grayson Murray’s last win at the course in 2024 before his passing. Murray won in a playoff against Byeong Hun An and Keegan Bradley. Si Woo Kim was the 2023 champion.
ESPN+ will provide live coverage of the tournament, with daily broadcasts starting at noon HST on Thursday and Friday, and 1 p.m. HST on Saturday and Sunday. Coverage will include featured groups. Fans can find additional golf news, analysis, rankings, and schedules on the ESPN golf hub page. The tournament promises exciting competition and a fitting tribute to the late Grayson Murray.
