Thu Jan 09 12:42:54 UTC 2025: ## Old Pakistani Traffic Jam Video Falsely Shared as Uttarakhand New Year Congestion
**DEHRADUN, INDIA** – A video circulating on social media claiming to show massive traffic congestion in Uttarakhand due to New Year’s celebrations has been debunked as misinformation. The Press Trust of India (PTI) Fact Check Desk investigated the viral clip and determined it is an old video from the Kaghan Valley in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The video, which garnered over 15,000 likes on Instagram after being posted on December 30th, 2024, was shared with a Hindi caption translating to “Traffic jam in Uttarakhand on New Year.” However, PTI’s investigation, utilizing reverse image searches and video verification tools, traced the video back to July 2021.
Multiple sources, including Pakistani news outlets ARY News and Daily Times, published reports and videos showing the same traffic jam in the Kaghan Valley. These reports, dating back to July 26th, 2021, described massive congestion caused by an influx of tourists celebrating Eidul Azha.
PTI’s investigation definitively linked the viral video to these 2021 reports, proving it does not depict recent traffic in Uttarakhand. The fact-checking team concluded that the video’s use in relation to the Indian state was entirely false and misleading. The original Instagram post and subsequent shares have been flagged as misinformation.
