**Bhopal, January 9, 2025** – A China-made drone was discovered within the high-security Bhopal Central Jail, prompting a security probe, officials confirmed Thursday. The black drone, weighing 30-40 grams and fully charged, was found by a guard near the B-block building between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm on Wednesday.

While no one witnessed the drone landing, jail superintendent Rakesh Kumar Bangre stated that initial assessments suggest it may have belonged to children playing nearby. The drone has been handed over to Gandhi Nagar police for investigation.

The Bhopal Central Jail, sprawling across 151 acres, currently houses 3,600 prisoners, exceeding its capacity of 2,600. This includes 69 high-security prisoners, 32 of whom are associated with the banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Attempts to reach Bhopal Commissioner of Police H.C. Mishra for comment were unsuccessful.

The incident recalls the November 2016 escape of eight SIMI undertrials who killed a prison guard before being fatally shot by police. The discovery of the drone raises concerns about potential security breaches at the heavily populated facility.
