JAMMU, January 9, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has declined to comment on the INDIA alliance’s strategy for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, stating that the decision on how to challenge the BJP rests with the AAP, Congress, and other local parties. While acknowledging the AAP’s previous electoral victories in Delhi, he emphasized the need to await the electorate’s decision in the February 5th election.
In contrast, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah highlighted the broader purpose of the INDIA alliance, asserting that its scope extends beyond electoral contests. He emphasized the alliance’s goal of national unity and the eradication of societal hatred.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for a single phase on February 5th, with vote counting on February 8th. The nomination process concludes on January 17th. The Congress party, which previously held power in Delhi for 15 years, faces an uphill battle after suffering consecutive defeats, failing to secure a single seat in the 2020 election, where the AAP won a landslide victory with 62 out of 70 seats.
