Wed Jan 08 10:08:41 UTC 2025: ## Tripura BJP Rejects CPI(M)’s Tribal Protest
**Agartala, January 8, 2025** – The tribal wing of Tripura’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Janajati Morcha, has vehemently opposed the upcoming “Raj Bhavan Abhijan” protest planned by the CPI(M)’s tribal arm, the Tripura Rajya Ganamukti Parisad (GMP). The GMP plans to march on the Governor’s residence on January 11th to advocate for tribal interests.
Janajati Morcha vice-president Bidyot Debbarma stated at a press conference that the BJP rejects the GMP’s claims, highlighting what he described as unprecedented tribal development under the BJP’s rule. He cited the resolution of the long-standing Bru refugee issue and the designation of 12 tribal-dominated blocks as aspirational blocks to accelerate development. He also pointed to the renaming of Agartala Airport as evidence of the BJP’s commitment to the tribal community.
Debbarma attributed the delay in Village Committee elections to the ongoing integration of Bru voters into the electoral process, assuring that elections will be held in all 587 committees once this is complete. He emphasized that development continues in these areas despite the delayed elections.
Senior BJP leader Bimal Chakma further criticized the Left Front for allegedly neglecting the empowerment of the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), urging the passage of the 125th Amendment Bill to strengthen the council politically and economically.
