**Patna, January 8, 2025** – Jan Suraaj Party leader Prashant Kishor, hospitalized after a fast unto death, is in stable condition, doctors reported Tuesday night. Kishor, who was admitted to the ICU of a Patna hospital suffering from dehydration, is receiving intravenous fluids. Doctors at Jay Prabha Medanta Hospital stated that while his condition is improving, and he may be moved out of the ICU Wednesday, his discharge remains unlikely. They urged him to resume normal food intake to aid his recovery.
Kishor’s fast was in solidarity with Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants protesting alleged irregularities in a recent exam. Following his arrest Monday and subsequent release on bail, his health deteriorated. Party leaders Pavan K Varma and YV Giri visited him, urging him to end his fast for the sake of his health and the ongoing political struggle. Varma emphasized the importance of Kishor’s well-being for the continued fight against what he called the CM’s insensitivity towards the BPSC aspirants. Giri, a senior advocate, indicated plans to pursue legal action regarding the BPSC exam controversy, suggesting the judiciary may offer a quicker resolution than the legislature. He criticized a previous Supreme Court dismissal of a petition seeking exam cancellation, attributing the failure to a poorly filed petition.
Meanwhile, Patna district authorities denied Kishor’s allegations of police pressure on doctors and confirmed an ongoing investigation into a vehicle used at the protest site for potential Motor Vehicles Act violations. The state government ordered a fresh exam for over 12,000 candidates following allegations of a question paper leak in the December 13th BPSC exam, despite initial denials.
