ST. LOUIS, MO – OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is facing a lawsuit alleging decades of sexual abuse filed by his sister, Ann Altman. The lawsuit, filed in Missouri, claims abuse spanning from 1997 to 2006, beginning when Ann was three years old and allegedly including rape. The suit seeks damages exceeding $75,000 and demands a jury trial.

Ann Altman’s lawsuit details alleged instances of abuse that continued into her teenage years, even after Sam Altman reached adulthood. The suit alleges that the abuse caused “severe emotional distress, mental anguish, and depression.”

Sam Altman, along with his brothers and mother, released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) vehemently denying the allegations, calling them “utterly untrue” and expressing concern for Ann Altman’s mental health. The family claims to have provided support but alleges that Ann Altman has continued to make demands for money and has made “deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims.”

Ann Altman’s lawyer has indicated that they intend to seek punitive damages, which under Missouri law allows them to explore Sam Altman’s net worth and present it to the jury.

While Ann Altman has previously made accusations of abuse against Sam and another brother, Jack, on social media, this marks the first legal action taken. Previous online posts detailed various forms of abuse, including sexual, physical, emotional, verbal, financial, and technological abuse. The family also claims Ann Altman has previously accused them of financial impropriety and online harassment.

The family acknowledged the challenges of supporting a family member with mental health struggles in a previous interview last year. The case is now pending in Missouri courts.
