Tue Jan 07 14:14:28 UTC 2025: ## Kumbh Mela 2025: UP Govt Invests ₹6,000 Crore, Expects ₹1-2 Lakh Crore Revenue

**Prayagraj, India –** The upcoming Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, scheduled for January 13th to February 26th, is expected to be a major economic boon for Uttar Pradesh, according to state Social Welfare Minister Aseem Arun. The government is investing over ₹6,000 crore in infrastructure and transportation for the event, which is held once every 12 years. This follows a 2019 Kumbh Mela that generated ₹1.2 lakh crore in revenue, with projections for this year’s event reaching ₹1-2 lakh crore.

Minister Arun highlighted the economic impact, emphasizing that increased money circulation stimulates economic activity. Beyond the direct revenue, the Kumbh Mela is also boosting tourism and leading to significant infrastructural improvements in Prayagraj, including a vastly improved sanitation system. He specifically praised the elimination of liquid waste discharge into the Ganga-Yamuna river, thanks to new sewer lines, replacing the previous pit latrines.

The government has implemented extensive security measures, deploying thousands of AI-powered CCTVs, underwater drones, and electric buses to ensure a smooth and safe experience for pilgrims. Efforts have also focused on accessibility, with arrangements ensuring even those with limited budgets can participate comfortably.

Minister Arun lauded the Yogi Adityanath government’s efforts, stating that the arrangements made are inclusive and ensure that even those on a budget of ₹500 can access facilities, including the availability of affordable, yet comfortable, tents. The Mahakumbh Mela is expected to attract millions of devotees and contribute significantly to the state’s economy.
