Wed Jan 08 15:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Joann Fabrics Closes Several Stores Amid Restructuring

**COLUMBUS, OH –** Craft retailer Joann Fabrics is closing a number of stores across the United States as part of an ongoing store location optimization strategy, the company confirmed. While Joann did not disclose the exact number of closures, they have confirmed at least six store closings, including locations in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and Ithaca, New York, with local news outlets reporting additional closures in Hermitage, Pennsylvania, and Cockeysville, Maryland.

The closures come several months after Joann emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2024 as a privately held company under its creditors’ ownership. At the time of the bankruptcy filing, the company operated 815 stores, 96% of which were profitable. Since then, Joann has seen leadership changes, including the appointment of Michael Prendergast as interim CEO.

A company spokesperson stated that the closures are a routine part of evaluating and optimizing store locations. The company also highlighted recent store openings and renovations in Great Falls, Montana, and Maplewood, Minnesota. Despite requests for comment, Joann declined to provide details on further planned closures, openings, or renovations for the year. Joann currently operates approximately 850 stores across 49 states.
