Wed Jan 08 15:01:06 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Assembly Elections Set for February 5th

**New Delhi, January 8, 2025** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 5th, 2025, with vote counting scheduled for February 8th. The Model Code of Conduct is now in effect.

The announcement triggered the immediate removal of political posters and hoardings across the city. A total of 15,524,858 voters are registered for the election, representing a 1.09% increase from the previous count. The last date for nominations is January 17th, with scrutiny on January 18th and the final withdrawal date set for January 20th.

The BJP, aiming for a “double engine” government, has launched an aggressive campaign targeting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the Delhi Excise Policy case. They accuse the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of corruption and misgovernance.

The AAP, seeking a third consecutive term, is focusing on its achievements in education and health. The Congress, meanwhile, is hoping to recover from its recent electoral setbacks after failing to win any seats in the last two elections. In the 2020 elections, the AAP secured a landslide victory with 62 out of 70 seats, leaving the BJP with only eight.
