**New Delhi, January 7, 2025** – The New Delhi District Election Officer (DEO), S.K. Singh, has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of exerting undue pressure, hindering the independent functioning of his office. In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Singh detailed numerous visits by senior AAP leaders, including Rajya Sabha members Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh, who allegedly requested information not permitted under Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines.
The DEO also reported a call from Chief Minister Atishi requesting a meeting without a stated agenda, prompting him to seek guidance on whether such meetings are permissible. Similar concerns were raised in a separate letter to the Chief Minister.
Adding to the escalating tension, the New Delhi Additional District Magistrate (ADM) requested police intervention to address “growing tensions” and “incidents of ruckus” at the DEO’s office attributed to frequent visits by political representatives. The situation highlights concerns about potential political interference in the electoral process.
