Tue Jan 07 01:55:47 UTC 2025: ## ED Frames Charges Against Key Accused in West Bengal Teacher Recruitment Scam
**Kolkata, January 7, 2025** – The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has formally charged six individuals, including key accused Sujay Krishna Bhadra, in connection with the West Bengal primary school teacher recruitment scam. Charges under Section 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) were framed against Mr. Bhadra, also known as Kalighater Kaku, via video call due to his ongoing hospitalization. He appeared virtually before Judge Subhendu Saha at Kolkata’s Bankshall court.
The other accused facing charges are Partha Chatterjee, Manik Bhattacharya, Santanu Bandhopadhyay, Santu Gangopadhyay, and Ayal Sil. ED officials allege all accused accepted bribes from job applicants. The court deemed the evidence presented by the ED sufficient to proceed with the charges.
The process was delayed a week due to Mr. Bhadra’s reported illness and hospitalization following a medical emergency on December 30th.
This development marks a significant step forward in the ongoing investigation into the widespread corruption scandal.
