**Cleveleys, Lancashire –** A maritime rescue team in Lancashire was dispatched to Cleveleys after a report of a person-shaped object in the sea. However, the dramatic rescue attempt ended with a slightly less dramatic discovery: a training dummy.
HM Coastguard Fleetwood received a call from a witness who spotted what appeared to be a person in the water near the Cove Cafe. A rescue crew was immediately sent to the scene. While the witness initially described the object as human-like, they later clarified that it was clearly not a person.
Upon reviewing a video taken by the witness, the coastguard identified the object as a training dummy commonly used in “man overboard” drills. Although the dummy was only in shallow water, a coastguard rescuer performed a tethered rescue to retrieve it and prevent further alarm as it drifted ashore.
Despite the anticlimactic outcome, HM Coastguard Fleetwood praised the witness for their vigilance, stating that the object appeared concerning from a distance. The coastguard emphasized the importance of reporting any potential incidents at sea, highlighting that even seemingly insignificant sightings can warrant investigation.
