Tue Jan 07 11:50:00 IST 2025: ## 49ers Fire Special Teams Coordinator Brian Schneider After Disappointing Season

**San Francisco, CA** – The San Francisco 49ers have parted ways with special teams coordinator Brian Schneider, ESPN reported today. The move comes after a disappointing 2024 season that saw the team finish 6-11 and miss the playoffs.

Schneider, 53, had been with the 49ers for three seasons, joining head coach Kyle Shanahan’s staff in 2022. His tenure was marked by inconsistent performance from the special teams unit, drawing considerable criticism, particularly concerning the struggles of rookie kicker Jake Moody, a third-round draft pick that Schneider advocated for. Missed field goals by Moody proved costly in several games this season.

Prior to his time in San Francisco, Schneider spent 11 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His extensive coaching career also includes collegiate stops at Colorado State, UCLA, Iowa State, and USC.

The 49ers’ decision to fire Schneider represents their first significant coaching change of the offseason as they look to rebuild after a season that ended well below expectations. The search for a new special teams coordinator is expected to begin immediately.
