**Hyderabad, January 6, 2025** – The inauguration of the newly constructed ₹413 crore Cherlapalli Railway Terminal in Hyderabad was overshadowed by a dispute over the construction of approach roads. While Telangana’s IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu urged the central government to fund the road development, citing improved commuter access, Union Ministers countered that road construction falls under the state’s purview.
Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna emphasized that the central government has already invested heavily in the terminal itself and the responsibility for approach roads lies with the Telangana government. He appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take on the project.
Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy further highlighted the state’s outstanding payment of ₹1,000 crore for MMTS phase-II, despite central completion of the work. He urged the state to cooperate on approach road construction and land acquisition for MMTS expansion. Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar called for both governments to prioritize development over politics.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and South Central Railway general manager Arun Kumar Jain. The differing stances on funding responsibility for the crucial approach roads highlight ongoing tensions between the central and Telangana governments regarding infrastructure development.
