**Thanjavur, January 6, 2025** – Sanitation workers in Thanjavur staged a protest on Monday, demanding direct payment of wages and improved working conditions. Members of the Thanjavur Corporation Contract Sanitation Workers Association demonstrated near the corporation headquarters, accusing the contracted private company of consistently delaying wages and failing to remit Provident Fund (PF) and Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) deductions.
The workers also demanded the provision of essential safety equipment, including gloves, face masks, and uniforms. They urged the Thanjavur Corporation to terminate its contract with the private company and instead pay them directly to ensure timely and complete wages, along with the proper remittance of statutory deductions. The protestors are demanding receipts proving these deductions have been properly paid.
