**Louisville, KY** – A winter storm bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain has forced several Louisville-area schools to cancel classes on Tuesday. Hazardous road conditions prompted the closures.
Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), the state’s largest district, announced the closure of all schools and the cancellation of all extracurricular activities for Tuesday and Wednesday. These days will be treated as traditional snow days.
Other districts remain undecided on Tuesday’s status, including Oldham County, Bullitt County, Shelby County, Spencer County, and Greater Clark County Schools. Decisions are expected later Monday.
Clarksville Community Schools will operate on a remote learning schedule Tuesday. The status of New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated schools, Kentucky School for the Blind, and Archdiocese of Louisville schools remains unannounced.
Higher education institutions in the area are also assessing the situation. The University of Louisville remains on winter break, with classes scheduled to resume Wednesday. The university hasn’t yet announced if campus offices will be closed Tuesday. Similarly, the University of Kentucky, Bellarmine University, Spalding University, and Simmons College of Kentucky have yet to make announcements.
Indiana University Southeast campus is operating with limited capacity until further notice, with essential staff expected to report. Remote work is encouraged where possible.
