THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, January 6, 2025 – Kannur district has edged ahead in the fiercely competitive 63rd Kerala State School Arts Festival, holding a slim one-point lead over Thrissur after the second day of events. With 449 points, Kannur maintains its title defense, but the race remains tight. Thrissur trails closely behind with 448 points, while Kozhikode, the historical leader, is in third place with 446 points. Palakkad, Malappuram, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kollam, and host Thiruvananthapuram follow. Three days of competition remain, promising potential shifts in the rankings.

The festival, considered the world’s largest of its kind, continues to draw large crowds, with attendees from across Kerala and beyond. While some events, such as Oppana (HS), attracted smaller audiences, others like drama (HSS) at the Tagore Theatre and light music (HSS girls) at the Swathi Thirunal Government Music College proved immensely popular, drawing full houses and enthusiastic responses. A particularly captivating performance of Moitheen and Kanchana, a tale of star-crossed lovers, was presented by Carmel HSS, captivating the audience.

The festival showcases a wide range of art forms, including classical dances like Mohiniyattam and Bharatanatyam, as well as Kuchipudi, Thiruvathirakali, and folk dances. The event continues through January 9th.
