Mon Jan 06 04:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhi on High Alert for Potential Respiratory Virus Outbreak
**New Delhi, January 6, 2025** – Delhi health authorities have issued a preparedness advisory for hospitals in anticipation of a potential surge in respiratory illnesses, including those caused by the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). The advisory follows a Sunday meeting led by Dr. Vandana Bagga, Director General of Health Services, with district officials and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).
Hospitals have been instructed to immediately report all cases of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) via the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP). Strict isolation protocols and universal precautions for suspected cases are also mandated. Accurate record-keeping of SARI and lab-confirmed influenza cases is crucial for effective monitoring.
While the advisory is a proactive measure in response to reports of rising respiratory illnesses in China, the IDSP, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and World Health Organization (WHO) have not reported a significant surge in respiratory illnesses as of January 2nd, 2025. Hospitals are nonetheless being equipped to manage mild cases with essential medications such as paracetamol, antihistamines, bronchodilators, and cough syrups, along with adequate oxygen supplies.
