Mon Jan 06 16:19:41 UTC 2025: ## Prashant Kishor Released on Unconditional Bail After Arrest During BPSC Protest
**Patna, Bihar:** Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraj Party, was arrested on Monday afternoon while on a hunger strike in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan in support of BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission) exam candidates’ demands. However, he was released on unconditional bail by a Patna court later that day.
Initially, the CJM court had imposed conditions on his bail, but these were subsequently revoked. Kishor was taken into custody and briefly held at Beur police station before his release. Following his release, Kishor held a press conference, declaring victory for the protesting youth and affirming his commitment to continuing his hunger strike until their demands are met.
Kishor recounted his arrest and subsequent release, stating that police initially lacked the necessary documentation to detain him at Beur Jail. He rejected an earlier conditional bail offer, stating he was prepared to remain in jail. The court, however, recognized the merits of his cause and granted unconditional bail.
The hunger strike, which Kishor insists will continue, was initiated in solidarity with BPSC candidates. He criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, stating that the Chief Minister is “physically and mentally tired” and has only 10 months left in office. He also called on Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav to actively support the protest instead of criticizing him. Kishor announced a meeting at midnight to decide the location for the continuation of his hunger strike, with details to be announced on Tuesday. He expressed confidence in the success of the youth’s campaign.
The arrest and subsequent release highlight the ongoing tension surrounding the BPSC exam and the growing demands for reforms within the commission. The incident underscores Kishor’s unwavering commitment to the cause of the protesting youth.
