Sun Jan 05 23:17:32 IST 2025: ## Gaza’s Health System on Brink of Collapse Amidst Israeli Attacks: UN
**GAZA CITY** – The United Nations has issued a dire warning that Gaza’s health system is teetering on complete collapse following relentless Israeli attacks. According to the UN, only 16 of the territory’s 36 hospitals remain partially operational, severely limiting access to vital healthcare for the population.
The UN has documented over 650 Israeli attacks targeting medical facilities since the October 2023 conflict began, resulting in the deaths of at least 1,054 healthcare workers. While Israel alleges Hamas fighters are using hospitals as bases, concrete evidence supporting these claims remains scarce.
The crisis has prompted grave concerns from international organizations and medical professionals. Mohammed Abu Mughaisib, Deputy medical coordinator for Gaza for Doctors Without Borders (MSF), along with other experts including human rights lawyer and former UN special rapporteur Michael Lynk, and orthopaedic surgeon Mohammed Adeel Khaleel, who recently returned from Gaza, have all highlighted the catastrophic situation. The severity of the damage and the sheer number of casualties among medical personnel are raising questions about the possibility of averting a complete health system failure. The ongoing conflict and the crippling damage to medical infrastructure raise serious questions about the future of healthcare access for the people of Gaza.
