**Bhopal, January 4, 2025** – Two men have been arrested in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly assaulting a Dalit woman and her daughter, police confirmed Friday. The attack, which occurred in Ambah town, Morena district, involved dragging the woman through the streets while her daughter clung to her. A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, shows the woman bleeding from head injuries and her daughter crying.
The assault allegedly stemmed from an incident where the woman’s 13-year-old son threw cow dung at a dog that was barking at him. Four to five men subsequently arrived at the family home and attacked them with sticks and knives. Four family members sustained injuries, with the woman’s condition described as “a little serious.” She is currently hospitalized.
The accused, identified as Rajesh Tomar and Kumheir Singh Tomar, were arrested following a complaint filed by the woman’s elder son. Police are actively searching for additional suspects.
The incident has sparked outrage, with the Congress party criticizing Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and the Bharatiya Janata Party government for the escalating number of atrocities against Dalits in the state. This follows a recent death of a Dalit man in police custody in Dewas district, which also sparked controversy. Police claim he died by suicide, while the family and Congress allege murder.
