**PUDUKKOTTAI, Tamil Nadu (January 4, 2025)** – The traditional bull-taming sport of jallikattu marked its return for 2025 in Thatchankurichi village, Pudukkottai district, on Saturday. The event, the first of its kind in the state this year, drew hundreds of participants and spectators.
Ministers S. Regupathy (Law) and Siva V. Meyyanathan (Backward Classes Welfare) officially inaugurated the event at 8:15 a.m. District Collector M. Aruna administered the oath to the participants.
Around 600 bulls, transported from neighboring districts, and at least 350 tamers were expected to participate. The jallikattu arena saw a steady stream of bulls released one by one through the “vadivasal.”
Extensive safety measures were in place. Over 315 police personnel managed crowd control, while medical teams ensured the well-being of both bulls and tamers, conducting pre-event medical examinations and providing on-site medical assistance and ambulances.
The event, a significant cultural and social occasion in Tamil Nadu, proceeded amid excitement and anticipation.
