**Manila, Philippines –** A United Airlines passenger has been banned from the airline after allegedly urinating on a fellow passenger during a flight from San Francisco to Manila. The incident occurred on UA Flight 189 last month, approximately four hours into the journey.
According to the victim’s stepdaughter, Nicole Cornell, the man stood up and urinated on Jerome Gutierrez, who was asleep in business class. Gutierrez only realized he was soaked in urine from his stomach to his feet after the perpetrator had finished.
Cornell claims that flight attendants instructed Gutierrez not to confront the man, fearing escalation. She expressed outrage at the airline’s response, stating, “They put the needs of the airline before my stepdad’s health. That is a biohazard, and the plane should’ve turned around.”
United Airlines confirmed a passenger disturbance occurred and that the individual responsible has been banned. They stated that police were contacted upon arrival in Manila on December 28th to address the incident.
This is not an isolated incident. Similar occurrences have been reported previously, including an incident on an American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi in April 2024 and another on an Air India flight in November 2022, both involving intoxicated passengers. These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about passenger behavior and airline response to such disruptive and unsanitary events.
