Fri Jan 03 17:11:49 UTC 2025: ## Al Jazeera Condemns PA Ban, Highlights Years of Censorship by Israel and Palestine

**RAMALLAH/DOHA** – Al Jazeera Media Network has denounced the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) ban on its operations in the occupied West Bank, describing the move as echoing Israeli occupation practices. The ban, announced this week, is the latest in a long history of attempts by both the PA and Israel to silence the network’s reporting on the Palestinian territories.

Since its inception in 1996, Al Jazeera has maintained a consistent presence in the region, providing coverage of major events including the Arab Spring, Israeli settler violence, and the recent devastating war in Gaza, even when other news organizations withdrew. This commitment to on-the-ground reporting has come at a significant cost; at least six Al Jazeera journalists have been killed in the Palestinian territories since 2022 while covering events in the West Bank and Gaza.

The PA’s action mirrors a similar ban imposed by Israel last year, which included the closure of Al Jazeera’s Ramallah bureau. Both the PA and Israel have repeatedly accused Al Jazeera of inciting violence, a claim the network vehemently denies.

Al Jazeera has operated bureaus in Ramallah and East Jerusalem, both of which have been subject to suspension or closure. In 2021, the network’s Gaza bureau was bombed by Israeli forces. The PA has now suspended Al Jazeera’s operations three times.

Despite the repeated attempts at censorship and intimidation, Al Jazeera has vowed to continue its reporting on the ongoing conflict, highlighting the plight of Palestinians. The network’s steadfast commitment to covering the situation, even in the face of significant risk, underscores its dedication to independent journalism.
