Sat Jan 04 00:16:00 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Fisherfolk Receive ₹148 Crore in ONGC Pipeline Compensation

**Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh –** Andhra Pradesh Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Cooperative and Marketing, K. Atchannaidu, disbursed ₹148.37 crore in compensation to 23,450 fisherfolk affected by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) pipeline project. The funds were directly credited to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts on January 3rd. The compensation covers losses incurred over six months due to the pipeline’s impact on their livelihoods in Kakinada and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema districts.

Speaking at a ceremony in Coringa village, Mr. Atchannaidu announced that the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance government plans to offer a 70% subsidy on fishing boat engines and boats, echoing a similar program implemented during the TDP’s previous term (2014-2019). Furthermore, the government will increase compensation for the annual fishing ban in the Bay of Bengal (starting in March) from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 per affected fisherfolk.

The event was attended by several officials, including MLC Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and local MLAs.
