Fri Jan 03 00:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Orange Bowl Remains on Schedule Despite Sugar Bowl Postponement

**Miami, FL** – The College Football Playoff (CFP) will proceed as planned, with the Orange Bowl semifinal game remaining scheduled for January 9th, a CFP spokesperson confirmed Thursday. Concerns arose that the Orange Bowl date might be shifted following the postponement of the Sugar Bowl, a CFP quarterfinal game, due to a deadly truck attack in New Orleans.

The Sugar Bowl, originally slated for January 1st, was rescheduled for 4 p.m. ET today, after both Georgia and Notre Dame, the competing teams, requested an earlier start time to allow for adequate preparation before the Orange Bowl. This earlier start time minimizes the turnaround for the Sugar Bowl winner, who will face Penn State in Miami.

Penn State, having already secured their semifinal berth after a 31-14 victory over Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday, will now enjoy a two-day rest advantage over their upcoming opponent. While both Georgia and Notre Dame had extended breaks in December, the scheduling change is expected to be a significant talking point leading up to the Orange Bowl kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET on January 9th at Hard Rock Stadium. The Cotton Bowl semifinal, scheduled for January 10th, will also remain unaffected.
