**NEW DELHI, January 5, 2025** – In a joint humanitarian operation, India and Bangladesh have repatriated 195 fishermen – 95 Indian and 90 Bangladeshi – who were apprehended after inadvertently crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line. The handover took place at sea between the Indian and Bangladesh Coast Guards.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the release, stating that the Indian government prioritizes the safety and well-being of its fishermen. The repatriation follows several recent incidents where fishermen from both countries were detained after straying into neighboring waters. The operation highlights the ongoing commitment by both nations to address the issue of cross-border fishing with a focus on the livelihood concerns of the fishing communities.
