HYDERABAD, January 3, 2025 – The Telangana government has declared January 3rd, the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, as Teachers’ Day. This decision honors Phule, considered India’s first female teacher, and her significant contributions to women’s and girls’ education in the 19th century.
The state government’s order directs all schools to commemorate the day with events celebrating the achievements of women teachers, who constitute over 50% of the teaching staff in government schools across Telangana. The School Education Department Director has issued instructions to all schools to organize appropriate programs and tributes.
