Thu Jan 02 23:13:31 UTC 2025: ## Lone Wolf Terrorist Kills 14 in New Orleans New Year’s Attack

**New Orleans, LA –** A lone U.S. Army veteran, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, drove a truck into a crowd of New Year’s Eve revelers in New Orleans, killing 14 and injuring dozens more in what authorities are calling a premeditated act of terrorism inspired by the Islamic State group. The FBI initially investigated the possibility of accomplices but now confirms Jabbar acted alone.

The attack occurred when Jabbar, a Texas resident, drove around a police barricade and plowed into the crowd on Bourbon Street. Authorities recovered an Islamic State flag from his truck, and Jabbar had posted several videos on Facebook aligning himself with the group and expressing intent to kill before the attack. He was fatally shot by police after a firefight.

The FBI also discovered firearms and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device (IED) in his vehicle, as well as additional explosive devices elsewhere in the French Quarter. Searches of a Houston-area home connected to Jabbar yielded no further arrests.

The attack temporarily shut down Bourbon Street, leaving a scene described by witnesses as chaotic and horrific. The Sugar Bowl college football game, initially postponed due to the attack, resumed as scheduled.

Officials are now investigating Jabbar’s potential ties to terrorist organizations and reviewing security protocols in New Orleans. A barrier system meant to prevent vehicle attacks was under repair at the time of the incident. The incident marks the deadliest IS-inspired attack on U.S. soil in years.

The attack follows deadly explosions in Honolulu and Las Vegas on the same day, although the FBI has yet to establish any connection. President Biden expressed his condolences to the victims and the city of New Orleans. Investigations into all incidents are ongoing.
