Imphal, Manipur – January 3, 2025 – Manipur police announced the arrest of a 42-year-old member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) on Friday. Mayengbam Momocha Meitei was apprehended in Kakching district on Thursday. Police say the group is involved in extortion and grenade attacks. This arrest follows the December arrest of eight other KCP(PWG) members in connection with the killing of two migrant laborers.
In a separate operation in Churachandpur district, security forces recovered six firearms and ammunition from Saiboh village. Police have intensified security measures across the state, establishing 107 checkpoints and providing security convoys in sensitive areas. These actions come amid ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, which has claimed over 250 lives and displaced thousands since May 2024.
