Fri Jan 03 16:23:02 UTC 2025: ## Beloved Bengaluru Restaurant, Hotel Ajantha, Closes After 54 Years

**Bengaluru, January 3, 2025** – Hotel Ajantha, a Bengaluru institution for 54 years, closed its doors on December 31, 2024. The restaurant, located on M.G. Road, was a popular spot known for its South Indian cuisine, particularly its Mangalore Bajjis and akki rotti. Its central location made it a favorite among employees of nearby offices.

The closure is attributed to a property dispute among family members who own the building, resulting in a lease expiry that could not be renewed due to ongoing court proceedings. Owner S. Bagilthaya confirmed the situation, stating that they are currently negotiating to retain the location but are also exploring alternative sites should negotiations fail.

Longtime patrons expressed sadness at the closure, reminiscing about the restaurant’s consistent quality and delicious food. P.C. Rao, president of the Bruhat Bengaluru Hoteliers’ Association (BBHA), voiced hope that Hotel Ajantha would reopen, emphasizing its significance as a beloved part of Bengaluru’s culinary history and community. The future of the restaurant remains uncertain, pending the outcome of the property dispute and the search for a new location.
